In the morning the meteo situation was totally non suitable for a paragliding flight.
A trong north-east wind was blowing behind the mounts and the whole take off area was in the le-side, with some strong gusts shaking the windsock fully from the left side.
At 11 o' clock no one would eve think to take off, but with the improving of the sun heat teh thermal activity started to stop the back wind.
So, unexpectedly, at one the air was flyable, the windummy were fastly climbing well over 2000 m in strong but smooth and wide thermals.
At 13.30 the task started.
It was a relatively short task of only 52 km tailored to avoid the lee side and to be flown mainly on the west side of the Rieti flatland
the theme was:
Take off,
Emmezzeta (near Rieti)
Apoleggia
then the flight moved to the opposite side of the valley:
S. Filippo
Greccio
Landing.
The flight conditions become easier and the sky was populated of small and friendly cumulus.
But on the S.Filippo turnpoint some pilots had to fight to gain altitude because the conditions were brcomng smoother.
At the end... at 4 pm. the race to goal was performed by a huge number of pilots.
The first in goal is the american Matt Beechinor, then the swiss Andy Aebi, and the Bulgarian Yassen Savov just two seconds before Luca Donini and Christian Biasi (same time and 31 seconds after the first in goal)
