There were a will to organize a long task of more than 100 km up to Gioia dei Marsi, 85 km in straight line tward south, and conditions seem to be ok for this.
But, after a few hours the cloud blanket was increasing at south, and also in Poggio it was getting more covered of cumulus.
So it has been set a race to goal of 84 km with start at 1 pm, but th take off went into the shadow of the clouds, so there were no more lift and the start have been delayed and then the task have been changed from race to goal into Elapsed time.
At the end the manche heve ben reduced to 78 km with the following theme:
start Lisciano,
Rivodutri
Città Ducale
Poggio Perugino
Apoleggia
Sellecchia
Landing
Finally, the take off has been fixed at 2 pm and the sun started again to light the mountain.
But the wather was getting worser, some of pilots found some ice rain on the start point and there were a big congestus on the Apoleggia turnpoint.
Giorgio Corti the task director was in doubt, so he asked for info to the meteo resp: Damiano Zanocco.
In the same time, Ewa Wisnierska (9946 meters in a thunderstorm in Australia) declared via radio: ‘level3, please sop the task’ but a lot of other pilots replied ‘level1’
Giorgio, took his own decision: task cancelled.
Mostly of the pilots were in agrement with this decision, some weren't but later in the afternoon some shower dropped all around the task area.
